Foreign Service ready to face challenges the election may pose

Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zahiya Zareer has stated that the Maldivian Foreign Service is fully equipped to tackle the challenges that may arise with the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking on PSM News’ talk show 'Talk Maldives', Ambassador Zahiya stated that Maldives welcomes all foreign parties to observe the 2018 president's elections. She added that the instructions and advice given by such organizations are taken in high regard.

"Yes we would have challenges when the presidential election is approaching this year, but the Foreign Service is all set to combat such challenges and we welcome all international observers to come observe this year's presidential elections," Ambassador Zahiya Zareer said.

Shedding light on the Free Trade Agreement Maldives has established with China in December 2017, Ambassador Zahiya stated that Maldives is keen to extend such agreements which benefits the nation. The Ambassador highlighted that Maldives intends to become an economically stable nation.

"Last few years we have expanded our scope by displaying our potential and ability to work with international bodies and countries. Our number one priority is to become economically strong and independent," Ambassador Zahiya Zareer said.

Before being appointed as the Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zahiya Zareer served as the Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka.
