Maldives welcomes first visitor of this year

Maldives has welcomed the first visitor of 2018 at an event held at Velana International Airport. The first visitor was welcomed by Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), together with Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Airports Company (MACL) and representatives of the Maldives tourism industry.

The first visitor to Maldives in 2018 was British national, Georgina Holbrook, who arrived with her family. She was awarded with a congratulatory certificate and a special gift pack representing the traditional Maldivian culture and tourism. Furthermore, she was awarded with a complimentary holiday package for 7 nights including internal transfers, sponsored by Furaveri Island Resort.

The British tourist market has been one of the topmost markets for Maldives over the past years.

By November 2017, 94,258 tourists arrived from Britain, which is a growth of 1.1%, compared to the same period of 2016. Maldives received a record breaking 1,389,548 tourist arrivals in 2017, according to Ministry of Tourism.
