MACL: Private jets arriving in VIA increases

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the number of private jets arriving at Velana International Airport has increased significantly. MACL said the number of private jets increased coinciding with New Year and the peak tourism season of Maldives. The number of private jets arriving in Maldives increased after the north apron of the main airport came into service, according to MACL.

Velana International Airport previously faced difficulties due to lack of sufficient area to accommodate all the private jets that arrive in Maldives, with most of the aircrafts forced to be diverted to domestic airports and other neighboring countries for parking.

As part of the USD 1 billion project to develop Velana International Airport, MACL prioritised the development of a further apron for the accomodation of the private jets.
