Eighth India-Maldives military exercise held jointly by Indian Army and and MNDF has concluded at Belgaum in Karnataka. MNDF was represented by a team comprising 2 officers and 43 military personals of other ranks.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the joint military and tactical training between India and Maldives, Brigadier General of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Ali Zuhair thanked the Indian Army for organising the training in a highly professional manner and complimented the participants on the successful completion of the exercise.
The senior most military observer of the Indian Army Brigadier Alok Khurana said that the exercise has polished individual and collective professional skills of all participants by obtaining best practices of both the armies adding that the training has served to reinforce the close ties of friendship between the two countries. He also appreciated the team spirit, camaraderie and high motivation shown by the participants throughout the two weeks of the training.

Participants and organisers believe that the exercise has further strengthened the military relation and cooperation between the two forces. Both the contingents exchanged mementoes and resolved to continue the joint exercise in the future. The bilateral annual exercise is a 14-day joint-military training between the Indian Army and MNDF, which is held alternatively in India and Maldives since 2009. The previous exercise was held at the Maldivian island of Kadhdhoo, in December 2016.
The main focus of the exercise is to acquaint both armies with operating procedures in the backdrop of a counter-insurgency or counter-terrorist operations in an urban or semi-urban environment under the United Nations Charter, with an overall aim to enhance interoperability between the two armies.
