Chief Justice notes importance of upholding Islamic principles

Chief Justice of Maldives Abdulla Saeed has affirmed that the purpose of challenging Islamic principles in the name of protecting human rights is to take away the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives. Speaking at the ceremony held to mark the day Maldives embraced Islam, Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed expressed with deep regret that some Maldivians work to challenge the religious beliefs and to create destruction in the government. Chief Justice Saeed further stated that relating terrorism and Islamic principles are increasing and that it needs to be stopped. Maldivians embraced Islam because of the good qualities found in the religion noting that it has become part of the Maldives since it embraced Islam, added the Chief Justice.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar appealed to all Maldivians to desist influencing the law and regulations in the name of Islamic principles. The Defence Minister cited that some Maldivians are trying to mix the culture and religion of Maldivians with other cultures and religions. Democracy without Islamic principles cannot be considered complete and Maldives will not accept it, expressed the Minister Shareef.

The ceremony to mark the day was attended by cabinet ministers, state ministers, parliamentarians and government officials.
