State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has upgraded and inaugurated the new powerhouse of Dhigurah Island of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
The project was implemented under the pledge of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to provide uninterrupted electricity to the whole nation.
The islanders who previously relied on an out-of-date, 30 year old powerhouse, have been provided with a new powerhouse, which is equipped with the latest technologies.
Member of Dhigurah Island Council Imran Adam said, the community had longed for a solution to the service in the island.
He noted that the new and upgraded powerhouse would have a positive effect on the flourishing local tourism in the island. The new powerhouse is designed to provide uninterrupted electricity by altering faults in the generators without interrupting the power supply.
STELCO revealed that the new powerhouse, with its new and well-designed power network, would solve the issues of power interruption and voltage dropping.
The new powerhouse is equipped with 4 generators of 360 Kilowatts, 300 Kilowatts, 200 Kilowatts and 170 Kilowatts.
