Tourism sector generates over USD 2.07 billion by September 2017

The tourism sector of Maldives has generated over USD 2.07 billion in the first nine months of 2017, which is an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period of last year. 

The tourism sector of the Maldives generated USD 2.01 billion in the first 9 months of 2016. The tourism revenues are based on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) earnings recovered from the tourism industry.

The government received over USD 222 million from the Maldivian tourism sector in the first nine months of this year, according to statistics published by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

The Maldivian Government estimates that the tourism industry will generate about USD 3 billion by the end of this year.
