A statement issued by Ministry of Tourism to the media has revealed that 27 new resorts would be opened in the Maldives within the next two years. While Tourism Ministry has revealed that more new resorts are in the pipeline, the Government of the Maldives continuously work for the enhancement of the industry. Statistics shows that these major efforts bring out positive results in the industry and that the industry is developing at a fast pace.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has pledged to assist investors to open 50 new resorts in Maldives in his first term at office. The administration has been exerting major efforts to make it a success. Since 2013, 27 new resorts have been opened in Maldives, with another additional 27 resorts are to be open within the next two years, according to Tourism Ministry.

Meanwhile, Maldivian tourism industry exhibited a remarkable performance in November displaying a growth of 15.2%. With the 120,506 tourists that visited during the month of November, total arrivals to Maldives have summed up to 1,246,501 in the first 11 months of 2017. This is a by 6.8% growth, compared to the same period of 2016. By regions, Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Americas and Africa all saw a firm growth during the period.
