USD 461.6 million allocated for infrastructure development

Government of Maldives has allocates USD 461.6 million from the state budget of 2018 for infrastructure development projects. The capital expenditure of the drafted budget is USD 772.3 million, from which the majority will be spent on development projects.

Land reclamation and airport development projects will be conducted in Kulhudhuffushi Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Funadhoo Island of Shaviyani Atoll, Maavaarulu Island of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Nilandhoo Island of Faafu Atoll.

The government allocated more than USD 71.5 million for 57 projects to establish water and sewerage systems. While USD 13.6 million have been allocated for road development projects of 18 islands, USD 35.8 million have been allocated for 63 projects to develop harbours. Furthermore, USD 12.3 million have been allocated for 27 projects for the development of waste management across Maldives.

Speaking at the Parliament of Maldives, Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawwar stated that the proposed budget paves way to prioritise and complete development projects to deliver results.

The government of Maldives proposed a state budget worth over USD 1.8 billion for 2018.
