Maldives and UAE discuss cooperation in financial field

During the trip to the gulf state, Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawwar has exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern with Minister of State for Financial affairs of UAE Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer.

Finance Minister Ahmed Munawwar and State Minister for Financial Affairs Humaid Al Tayer discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations, exchanging information for tax purposes, and facilitating UAE investment opportunities in the Maldives. Finance Minister Munawwar praised the existing strong relations between the two countries, highlighting the UAE's achievements, and its support towards strengthening economic development in Maldives. Minister Munawwar also emphasised the Maldives effort towards benefiting from the UAE's expertise in various fields such as issuance of bonds and Sukuk.

Minister of State for Financial Affairs Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer stressed UAE's keenness to enhance bilateral relations in various fields and to develop strong and strategic relations with Maldives.  Finance Minister Al Tayer also highlighted the growing economic and trade ties between the two countries, saying, that Ministry of Finance of UAE continuously seeks to strengthen relations with various countries across the globe, and expand the UAE tax network to meet the nation's development goals, support economic diversification policies and ways to facilitate investment opportunities in tourism, economic and infrastructure development sectors.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed the procedures to ratify agreements on avoidance of double taxation and on promotion and protection of investment, which were signed in October 2017. They reviewed and considered options for developing bilateral relations specifically with regard to common interests in tourism development, economic and infrastructure. They also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common concern.
