Attorney General lauds developmental projects of President Yameen

Attorney General of Maldives, Mohamed Anil has lauded the crucial developmental projects implemented by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and revealed several imminent plans. Addressing at a press briefing at World Travel Market in London, Attorney General of Maldives Mohamed Anil revealed that several infrastructure development projects will take place during 2018 and beyond, which will benefit tourists and the local community.

Attorney General Mohamed Anil described the current era in Maldives as “exciting and will be noted in history”. He said that, as the tourism industry continues to expand and with plans to open new resorts, Maldives will be able to accommodate more tourists from overseas.

"We are investing in our international airport, whereby in the next two years, we will have a huge airport with a 3500m runway along with other facilities in terminal which would cater around 7 million visitors per year. That would increase our opportunity for growth in the tourism industry. This government, when we came in, we envisaged and we have planned that we will have 35 resorts within these five years and we believe that we have achieved about 80% of this. So that increases huge number of bed capacity in Maldives,” added the Attorney General, revealing plans to invest in further developing Velana International Airport.

The Attorney Genertal added that the government is conducting developmental projects equally in all the sectors.

"Socially it is the economic growth that is bearing fruit. Education system is at its best now, while doing a lot more to improve. Health sector is improving a lot. Crime rates are getting lower. We believe, the benefits of our industry, our economy is having a positive impact on our day to day lives as well," said the Attorney General.

Furthermore, Attorney General Anil noted that Maldives is developing a Youth city in Hulhumalé, which is an island adjacent to the capital city, with the aim of providing accommodation and employment for future generations.

The new development projects in Maldives will support the increasing demand for tourism to the Maldives, according to the Attorney General. Imminent plans revealed by the Attorney General include the expansion of the recently re-branded Velana International Airport and the opening of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge in July 2018. Furthermore, he noted the plans to develop healthcare services in the Maldives, with the aim of providing world-class medical care to locals and tourists.
