First Startup Weekend concludes in Maldives

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Enterprise development Maldives, Ministry of Economic Development and Dhiraagu have concluded the first Techstar Startup Weekend.

Startup Weekend is a 54-hour weekend event, during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitched ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or a minimum viable product.

The programme was coordinated by a local organising team who were trained as part of the Techstar Community Leaders training programme earlier this year. 60 youth of different professions participated in the Techstar Startup Weekend, according to the organizer.

The UNDP Youth Co:Lab is a programme that is brought to life by thousands of young people across the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to empower young people to lead social change in their communities and accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals through social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Over 700 million youth in Asia-Pacific can make or break efforts to ensure peace, prosperity and sustainable development in the region and worldwide. However, millions lack opportunities to realise the potential and play a full part in ensuring a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future.
