Addressing the closing of the National Forum on Sustainable Development Goals for Civil Society Organisation, Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed has called on all organisations to refrain from efforts of politicising social events and urged to continue efforts in providing services beneficial to the society.
Home Minister Azleen Ahmed stated that the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been exerting various efforts to expand and develop the services provided in Maldives and expressed that the role of private organisations is highly crucial in the development of the nation. Highlighting the Sustainable Development Goals that the administration aims to achieve, Home Minister Azleen Ahmed stated that the goals would pave various opportunities for the development of the nation. On this note, Minister Azleen Ahmed highlighted the importance of citizens joining hands and working together to achieve the goals.
Addressing the keynote, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim stated that the government aims to be the first nation in the region to achieve all the Sustainable Development Goals before the year 2030. On this context, the Environment Minister called on all local non-government organisations to collaborate with the government towards achieving the goals.
The National Forum on Sustainable Development Goals for Civil Society Organisation was initiated by Ministry of Environment and Energy, in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to have discussion rounds targeted for civil society organisations functioning in Maldives. A total of 100 organisations took part in the Forum in which information was also disseminated on the Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved by Maldives by 2030. In addition, discussions were also held on ways to accumulate funds for achieving the goals and ways of developing interconnectivity between the civil societies in Maldives.
