President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called for more women engagement in nation building.
The President made the appeal while speaking at the closing ceremony of the Women's Symposium, organised by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Renowned women leaders across the world and urged Maldivian women to take example from their role in the society, President Abdulla Yameen highlighted while speaking at the Women's Symposium.
The administration's decision to appoint 40% women to the board of directors of state-owned companies and expressed confidence that the target would be attained in the near future, President pointed out. President Yameen also shed light on the compassionate nature of women. Women's humanity boosted the peace and harmony of a country, and helped to maintain stability among the people. President said. The Women's Symposium, initiated by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim concluded on Saturday night.
The two-day symposium was held aiming to prepare women leaders and official campaigns for the 2018 elections by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and to create leaders and campaign experts among women and enhance the role of women in the political arena. At the symposium, cabinet ministers and parliamentarians delivered information to participants regarding leaders and leadership skills. The symposium saw the participation of more than 300 women from across the country.
