Explosive trace detectors donated by UK to be installed at VIA

Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has revealed that the explosive trace detectors donated by the Department for Transport Aviation and Security of United Kingdom would be installed in Velana International Airport.

While addressing the keynote at the closing ceremony of supervisor's course organised by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar stated that the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom gives a high priority on the safety and security of both domestic and international airports in Maldives. Airport development projects conducted by the current administration to ensure safe and easy route of both locals and tourists, highlighted Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar.

The Defence Minister stated that the government has held various discussion rounds with aviation authorities to ensure the safety of the airports adding that lately a lot of terrorist attacks have been targeted to airports and Maldives being a country open to the whole world, the administration has given utmost importance in ensuring the safety of the travellers using these gateways. Minister Adam Shareef Umar highlighted the joint collaborative efforts and thanked the government of the United Kingdom for the support and assistance in strengthening the safety and security of Maldives.

In this regard, the Minister revealed that the explosive trace detectors handed over by the Department for Transport Aviation and Security of United Kingdom would be installed by next week in Velana International Airport. The Defence Minister concluded his keynote by highlighting the importance of remaining alert in matters concerning the safety and security of the nation. He further highlighted that the staff working at Defence Ministry and Aviation Security Command have a huge role in ensuring security.

The supervisor's course was organised from October 15-26 by MNDF in collaboration with Department for Transport of United Kingdom. In the ceremony the explosive trace detectors from the Department for Transport was received by the Minister of State for Defence and National Security Mohamed Zuhair. The 8 explosive trace detectors were presented to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
