Maldivian Government to retrieve sold shares of Dhiraagu and MWSC

Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawar has stated that the current administration would retrieve sold shares of Dhiraagu and Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).

The shares of Dhiraagu and MWSC were sold off by the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed between 2008 and 2011.

The administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would not follow the footsteps of earlier administrations in selling shares of government and public assets, Finance Minister Munawar stated, addressing parliament sitting held to pass the supplementary budget. On this note, the Finance Minister assured that the current administration would work to retrieve the sold shares.

In the past year, income received from government owned companies grossed up to USD 39 million, while this figure is expected to reach USD 58.5 million this year, according to the Minister.
