Government hands over medical equipment to Gan Regional Hospital

The government of the Maldives has handed over medical equipment, donated by Japan, to Gan Regional Hospital in Laamu Atoll. The equipment were handed over by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim to the Director of Gan Regional Hospital Abdul Hannan Abdul Raheem.

Equipment handed over to Gan Regional Hospital include transportable infant incubator, a dental unit, a ventilator and an infant incubator. The cost of the equipment amounts up to over USD 110,000.

Speaking after the ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim expressed hope that the services of the hospital would develop with the inclusion of the equipment. Noting the developments of tertiary hospitals in Addu City and Kulhudhuffushi Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Minister Nazim stated that the government aims to develop the services given in Gan Regional Hospital.

Highlighting the effort of the government to enhance the health sector within the islands, the Health Minister described that handing over the equipment to Gan Regional Hospital as an improvement to the sector.

The Japanese government donated medical equipment worth USD 603,000 to the Maldives.  The donation included mobile x-ray machines, mobile ventilators and dental equipment. All the donated equipment would be handed over to hospitals across the country, according to Ministry of Health.
