Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has said that importance will be given to reduce the challenges faced when incinerating waste in Thilafushi Island. The Environment Minister made the statement at a ceremony held to sign the contract to deliver and install a Waste Baling System for the incineration facility in Thilafushi Island.
Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim also highlighted that the government is in discussions with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to establish a Waste Heat Incinerator at Thilafushi Island. Establishment of a Waste Heat Incinerator, challenges faced in incinerating waste would be solved, added the Environment Minister.
During the ceremony, Swedish-based AB Company was contracted with supplying and installing the equipment needed for the incineration facility in Thilafushi Island. Under the agreement, equipment will be supplied and staff will be trained to operate the facility. The cost of the project of delivering and installing the Waste Baling System for the incineration facility is over USD 1.7 million. The project is to be completed within 5 months.
