Japanese drum group, Wadaiko SAI, has given a live performance as part of commemorative activities being held to mark the 50th anniversary since diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Japan. The performance held at Television Maldives (TVM) was organised by Japanese Embassy in the Maldives, jointly with Public Service Media (PSM).The performance also saw collaboration between local traditional drum group, Habeys Boduberu and SAI.
The Japanese Embassy in Maldives along with Public Service Media (PSM) organised the visit of Japanese drum group, Wadaiko SAI, as part of the activities planned to mark the 50th anniversary since diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Japan.
SAI group arrived in Maldives on Monday and gave an opening performance at Republic Square on Monday evening. This was followed by their performance on Tuesday night at Television Maldives (TVM), which saw a collaboration between SAI and local traditional drum group, Habeys Boduberu. The event was attended by Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Kazumi Endo, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Aminath Shaayan Shahid, officials from PSM, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japanese language learners and other guests.
Speaking before the event began, Ambassador Kazumi Endo noted the long standing relations between Japan and Maldives, highlighting that many events are planned to mark historic 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Speaking at the event, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Shaayan referred to the history of relations between Japan and Maldives, noting that Japan has always supported Maldives in its development aspects. She specifically highlighted Japan's assistance to further expand the broadcasting sector of Maldvies.
The event saw SAI performing with traditional large and small drums, similar to some drums used in Maldives yet different in beat. At the end of the performance, SAI had a drum off with local drum group Habeys Boduberu.
