Government of Maldives condemns Mogadishu bombing

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Asim has sent a message to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Investment Promotion of Somalia Yusuf Garaad Omar, condemning the deadly bomb explosion near a popular hotel in Mogadishu.

In his message, the Foreign Minister said that it was with deep shock and horror that he learnt the news of the deadly car bomb attack in the capital city, which caused the loss of many innocent lives and injured many others.

Government of Maldives condemns the act of terror in the strongest term, Minister Asim further said. He concluded the message by assuring that Maldives will work closely with the Government of Somalia and the international community in eliminating the global menace of terrorism.

At least 231 people were killed and 275 others injured the deadly bomb explosion on Saturday, according to latest media reports. The explosion in a prosperous area in downtown Mogadishu with many hotels, shopping malls and government agencies caused severe casualties, of which most were civilians and some were government staff members, diplomatic personnel and journalists. This blast is considered the deadliest single attack in recent years in the country.
