New bus service connects four islands in Laamu atoll

A new bus service has connected four islands in Laamu atoll. The new bus service was officially launched by the Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed.

The bus service which has been completed and launched ahead of schedule, is expected to ease difficulties in transportation for the residents of the islands connected by the Laamu Link. The new bus service has been introduced to four islands of Laamu atoll; Fonadhoo, Kaddhoo, Maandhoo and Gan.

The bus service was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed at a ceremony held at the island of Fonadhoo. The ceremony was attended by high level personnel from both the government and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). The bus service would take the routes along the link roads. The service, which comprises modern facilities, would cater to a population of over eight thousand residents. The development of the bus service in Laamu Atoll was contracted to Maldives Ports Limited MPL on the September, 28. Currently 4 air conditioned buses are being utilized for the new bus service.

Regardless of numerous obstacles and hurdles, the pace of developmental plans carried out by the current administration has remained unaffected, Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed stated while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Bus service. Maldivians should be grateful and welcome such new services with open arms, Minister said.  

The bus service price in Laamu atoll would be provided in a range of MVR 10-25, CEO of Maldives Ports Limited Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq said while addressing the ceremony. Children below 2 years of age and senior citizens could use the bus service free of cost, he said.

The new bus service will be free of charge until the October 20.
