President decides on Maldives' participation Kigali Amendment

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom decides on the participation of Maldives in the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.

The deliberations were made at a cabinet meeting, on a paper presented by the Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim. Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer could be the single largest real contribution the world has made so far towards keeping the global temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius, which is a target agreed at the Paris Climate Conference in 2016. President's Office states that following the decision by the President to adopt the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, relevant authorities will now work to formulate necessary regulations and policies under the law required to implement the amendment.
