President calls on Maldivians to priotise peace for the country

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has called on the people of Maldives to follow a well-established democratic system and priotise peace and love for the country above all others.

Addressing a function held to meet the senior citizens, President Yameen stated that true principles of a democracy cannot be established unless peace is maintained in a nation. The President highlighted on some fundamental principles in a well-managed democracy and highlighted that peace is the fundamental pillar to establish such a democracy nation. The President noted that no country has established a well-managed democracy without maintaining peace and sovereignty in that nation.

President Yameen stated that maintaining peace has to be the highest priority and called on all democratic and political leaders to stay in a limit in which the peace of the nation is not disrupted. The President further stated that no political leader or democratic leader has the right to call to commit crime and highlighted that such actions are against the principles of a good democratic country.

On the same note, the President noted that no one is permitted to disrupt the management and efforts of independent authorities and that political leaders cannot publicly criticise the judicial system, as this is also against the principles of a good democracy.

In his speech, President Yameen emphasised that true democratic principles are attained when citizens try to achieve their rights within the limits and routes permitted by the constitution. The President said that all citizens are treated at the same level in a good democracy. He concluded the speech by highlighting senior citizens has an important role in shaping a peaceful nation and noted the experience and knowledge that can be passed by them to the next generation.
