Maldives unveils Health Research Policy

Health minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim has stated that the utmost importance should be given to conduct researches to tackle the hurdles and challenges faced in the health sector. The health Minister made the statement while addressing the unveiling ceremony of ealth Research Policy.

The new policy would open doors for people who are interested in conducting research, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim stated, addressing the key note at the unveiling ceremony of the Maldives Health Research Policy. The Minister further stated that the policy being the first of its kind, Maldives is in great need of researches in the health sector but highlighted that Maldivians are unaware of the importance of such researches. Minister Nazim stated that the core objective of the new health policy is to create a trend of conducting research in the society.

The Health minister highlighted that researches in the health sector requires high tech technological advancements and technicalities and establishing these fundamentals are given the utmost importance. Health minister revealed that under the policy interested candidates would be provided financial assistance to conduct researches.

It is commendable that Maldives being a small island nation has achieved such a milestone by unveiling a National Policy for the health sector, Country Representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur stated, addressing the ceremony.

In addition to the policy, the 4th Volume of the Annual National Health Research Bulletin was also unveiled at the ceremony. This volume was unveiled by the WHO Representative Dr. Mathur. The bulletin consists of the plan for researching categories for the next 2 years.
