Local media to abide by the characteristics of Islam

Public Service Media (PSM) along with four other authorities signed a memorandum of understanding on ensuring the local media outlets abide by the characteristics of Islam and respects the sovereignty of the nation. The signing ceremony was held at the Seneco Hall of PSM Radio Building.

The memorandum was signed by President of Maldives Media Council Mohamed Mueed Hassan, President of Maldives Broadcasting Commission Mohamed Shaheeb, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives Hawwa Latheef, President of Dhivehi Bahuge Academy Ashraf Ali and Chief Operating Officer of PSM Mohamed Saeed. The signatories will work jointly and separately to achieve the targets set in the memorandum, which would be followed for a period of three years.

One of the aims of the memorandum is to ensure local media outlets abides the Islamic characteristics, prioritises nationalism, respects the values and principles of the nation and promotes the local language. It also targets to ensure local journalists are responsible, law abiding and aware of regulations.
