The International Conference on Islamic Awakening 2017 (ICIA2017) began in the Maldives. The conference, organised by Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed. International Conference on Islamic Awakening 2017 (ICIA2017) organised by Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), is an annual international conference that provides the opportunity to engage in open, critical and constructive discussions.
The conference, which would be held from 23 to 24 of this month, was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed. ICIA 2017 will focus discussions on enabling sustainable and resilient growth of Islamic Finance Industry through innovation and leadership.
The conference is an attempt to bring industry leaders, researchers and educators together in order to find out the solutions for the issues faced by Islamic Finance industry and to discuss the roadmap for future developments. Speaking at the opening of the conference, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed noted the conference will promote Islamic Financing in the country and in return benefit the economy of Maldives.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed highlighted various achievements of Maldives in the past three years in the Islamic Financing sector. Speaking at the opening of the conference, Chancellor of IUM Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that Islamic Financing is growing globally, with Islamic and non-Islamic institutions adopting its policies. Dr. Shaheem said that many papers on Islamic Financing will be submitted and discussed at the conference.
During the opening of the ICIA 2017, Economic Minister also launched the first ever Multi-language guideline, for scholarly work. The two day conference is attended by local and international experts in Islamic Finance, including official from Jordan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sudan, Egypt and Palestine.
Furthermore, the conference will be attended by professionals working in the banking sector and Islamic Finance sector and students studying Islamic Finance. During the conference, some local institutions will also present papers on various issues relating to Islamic Finance, including papers by Hajj Corporation, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, National University of Maldives and Anti- Corruption Commission of Maldives.
