Maldives calls to take immediate action on Rohingya crisis

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has called on the international community to take immediate action against the atrocities faced by the Rohingya Muslims. The Foreign Minister made the statement while speaking at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Emergency meeting on the situation of Rohingya Muslims held on the side-lines of the High Level Segment of the United Nations General Assembly.

Minister Asim stated that the Maldives is deeply concerned over the continued acts of human rights violations and barbarous assaults against the Rohingya Muslims and urged the Myanmar government to respect its obligations under international humanitarian laws, and to fully cooperate with United Nations agencies, non-governmental organisations and all others to provide humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya population.

The emergency meeting was convened by OIC to mobilise the International community on the plight of Rohingya Muslims and to address the crisis faced by the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar.
