Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has participated in the High Level Event on the Ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol.
During the High Level meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim highlighted the importance of access to appropriate, adequate technology development and transfer in implementation of the Montreal Protocol. Minister Thoriq congratulated the countries who have ratified the Kigali Amendments of the Montreal Protocol. There was a strong consensus in the meeting of adopting lesson learnt from the implementation of Montreal Protocol in implementation of Paris Agreement.
Kigali Amendments remains a key step identified in the climate actions of the countries. Small Island Developing States, represented currently 50% of the countries who have ratified the Kigali Amendments. Maldives is completing domestic process in the ratification of Kigali Amendments.
