Maldives calls on Myanmar to cooperate with Fact Finding Mission

Maldives has called on the Government of Myanmar to fully cooperate with Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar.

The Maldives Permanent Representative in Geneva Ambassador Hala Hameed called on Myanmar authorities to fully cooperate with the United Nations Fact Finding Mission and to also cooperate with all relevant United Nations Agencies and stakeholders to provide humanitarian assistance to the suffering population of Rohingya. The Ambassador made these remarks in her Statement to the 36th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council's Interactive Dialogue with the Independent International Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar held in Geneva.

Maldives is appalled by the latest escalation of violence in the Rakhine state and expressed its deep concerns about the horrific reports of innocent civilians being killed during security operations in Myanmar's Rakhine State, Ambassador Hala said. Government of Maldives adds its voice to the calls by the international community to the Government of Myanmar, to immediately cease all atrocities against Rohingya population and to respect International Law and International Humanitarian Law, she further stated.

In her statement, the Ambassador expressed the profound sympathy of Maldives and solidarity with the people suffering in Myanmar and highlighted that a nationwide effort is underway to assist the Rohingya people in dire need, including the Government of Maldives facilitating a fund-raising telethon, in collaboration with the private sector and the people of Maldives.
