Gender Ministry holds a workshop to validate Gender Equality

Ministry of Gender and Family has held a multisectoral workshop in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to validate the Gender Equality Action Plan.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Champa Central Hotel, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Gender and Family Aminath Shifana said that Maldives has achieved considerable development in gender equality regionally and internationally. The Permanent Secretary of Gender Ministry assured that Maldives will continue to achieve and develop the area and noted that the priority given by the government to empower women economically and socially.

On the same note, Shifana highlighted the efforts of the government to promote gender equality and to eliminate discrimination of all forms. She said that the ratification of the gender equality law paves way for the work of the ministry.

The action plan includes roles for various stakeholder bodies and non-government organizations relevant to gender equality and elaborates the gender dimensions of the programmatic results across the five outcome areas. A total of 49 groups of representatives participated in the workshop, including 13 government institutions, 15 non-governmental organisations and 5 United Nations agencies.
