MPL to start bus services in three regions of Maldives

Ministry of Economic Development has signed agreements with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to start bus service in Male' city, Kulhudhufushi Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll and islands joined by land in Laamu Atoll. The agreements were signed by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and CEO of MPL Ibrahim Abdul Razaaq Haleem.

Addressing the ceremony held at MPL, the Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated that with the commencing of bus service in the islands joined by land in Laamu Atoll would ease the travelling difficulties faced by the residents living in those islands. Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who also represents Fonadhoo constituency of Laamu Atoll, further highlighted the efforts by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to advance the transport services which had created numerous job opportunities.

Addressing the ceremony, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed stated that none of the previous government has implemented a well-managed bus services in cities like Addu and Fuvahmulah but the current administration has made remarkable efforts to ease the transportation service. The Minister further stated since the inception of MPL handling the bus service the service is witnessing a high end. He further stated that the ministry is working at a fast pace to establish bus services in the Male' city and other islands which are in need of the service.  

CEO of MPL Ibrahim Abdul Razaaq Haleem of MPL stated efforts are underway to commence bus services in Kulhudhuffushi and Laamu Atoll. He further revealed that the bus services in Male' city would take some time to commence due to some hurdles in providing the service but revealed that efforts are underway to commence the bus service as soon as possible.
