Work to protect ozone layer contributes to combat global warming

Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has stated that the efforts of Maldives to protect the ozone layer contributes to the overall effort to combat global warming. The Environment Minister made the remarks in a supplement given on the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.

Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said that the country has implemented the Paris Climate Change Accord which shows its commitment to tackle climate related predicaments faced by the world. Minister Thoriq highlighted that Maldives is always in the forefront of international efforts to combat climate change impacts and conserve the environment.

The Minister noted some of the milestones achieved by Maldives, including being amongst the first countries to stop using CFCs and the ambition to stop using HCFC by 2020. He stated positivity that all Maldivians will assist in the endeavor to cease usage of HCFC. He further noted other important issues relating to ozone conservation and smoke on the matter in depth in his statement.
