Goods imported and exported increase in August: Customs

The latest statistics released by Maldives Customs Service of the month of August revealed that the products imported and exported have seen an increase compared to the same period of 2016.

A total of goods worth of MVR 8.2 billion have been imported in August 2016. The latest statistics released by Maldives Customs Service showed that the total worth of the goods imported to Maldives in August 2017 have seen a rise of MVR 1.3 billion. 19% of the total goods were imported from United Arab Emirates with China ranked 2nd by contributing 13% while Singapore and Malaysia were ranked 4th and 5th by contributing 12 and 11% respectively.

The total worth of goods exported in the month of August from Maldives also has seen a rise of 18% compared to the same period of 2016.  A total of goods worth of MVR 269 million have been exported in August 2016. The statistics released by Maldives Customs Service showed that the total worth of the goods exported by Maldives has increased to MVR 317 million. 40% of the exports were dominated by the fish products exported to Thailand.

In addition, the income raised by import duty and additional fees by Maldives Customs Service in August have seen an increase of 14% compared to 2016. While Maldives Customs Service collected MVR 241 million in August 2016, MVR 243 million were collected in August 2017.
