Tourism Minister praises efforts to promote Maldives in UK

Minister of Tourism, Moosa Zameer has stated that the United Kingdom is a crucial part of the Maldivian tourism industry and praises efforts to promote Maldives in the United Kingdom.

The Tourism Minister made the remarks in a statement after Maldives was named “The Islands With The Best Places To Stay” at the Condé Nast Traveller's 2017 Readers' Travel Awards reaffirming its position as one the world's preferred destinations.

The annual awards ceremony was held at the Ham Yard Hotel in central London on September 4.

Referring to the win, Minister for Tourism, Moosa Zameer said the United Kingdom is a crucial part of the Maldivian tourism industry and said he was thrilled to receive this award. The Tourism Minister said that the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Maldives Embassy in London have worked hard to promote islands to the British people, and cited the achievement is a reflection of the effort.

The prestigious award was accepted by the Ambassador of Maldives to the Unied Kingdom, Ahmed Shiaan.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ambassador Shiaan said he was deeply honored that readers of Conde Nast Traveller have once again chosen Maldives as best islands for places to stay. The tourism industry of Maldives work hard to remain a world standard destination in providing holiday luxury services, Ambassador Shiaan said.

Maldivian hotels were also recognized, appearing in the top ten lists of Best Holiday Hotels and Best Hotel Spas.

The United Kingdom travel market remains buoyant for the Maldives. A total of 51,737 tourist arrivals were recorded from United Kingdom in the first half of the year. The United Kingdom accounted for 7.9% of the market share and is the third largest tourist generator to Maldives in this period.

Condé Nast Traveller is one of the leading luxury travel magazines in the United Kingdom, with a following of 1.3 million people. Its Reader's Travel Awards, voted by the readers of the magazine, are among the most widely respected in the travel industry.
