MRDC begins laying tar on roads of Kulhudhuffushi Island

Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has begun laying tar on the roads of Kulhudhuffushi Island of Haa Dhaalu atoll.

The project to upgrade and lay tar on the roads of Kulhudhuffushi Island was contracted to MRDC by Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The state-owned company MRDC said, it aims to complete the project within three months, on an area of 5.6 km. MRDC claimed that once it is complete, the island would have modern roads.

MRDC revealed they would be start by laying tar on Magaan road of the island. It is noteworthy that laying out the CSB layer on Nikagas road is also underway.

The project is estimated to cost more than MVR60 million. The first road tarred in the island was its largest road, Ameenee road. The new road was on September 2013 by then President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan. MRDC is currently working on laying tar on 18 additional roads of the island. MRDC aims to complete the project by the end of this year.

MRDC is currently carrying out road development projects in ten islands. Kulhudhuffushi Island is the capital of Haa Dhaalu Atoll administrative division of Thiladhunmathi Atoll in the north of the Maldives. Kulhudhuffushi is known as the Heart of the North. The population of the island exceeds 12,000.
