The Ministry of Gender and Family in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) marked the completion of a training of trainers in Gender programme, held from August 8 to 14.
The main purpose of the programme was to increase institutional awareness on matters of gender and to establish gender trainers who will train further officials within the institutions on gender issues. The participants of the training received information on the social construction of gender, the negative impact of gender-based discrimination, and details on new and amended legislation in the Maldives and commitments made under international conventions and treaties to ensure the protection of all human rights lost as a result of gender-based discrimination.
A total of 22 participants from various state institutions completed the five day programme.
