PSM officials meet ABU and AIBD officials

The governing board and senior officials of Public Service Media (PSM) has met with the Secretary General of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). The meeting with the Secretary-General of the ABU, Dr. Javad Mottaghi and Director of AIBD, Chang Jin was held on the sidelines of the AIBD General Conference which concluded in Maldives on Tuesday night.

During the meetings, discussions were held in length, on areas in which the regional countries and their official broadcasters can assist PSM. The discussions included providing training and technical assistance and expertise to the staff of PSM. Discussions also focused on ways the institutes could work with the Maldives Media Institute of PSM.

Furthermore, indebt deliberations were held on how AIBD could assist Maldives to formulate a code of conduct and standards for media on covering the 2018 presidential elections as per the laws of the country. During the meetings, Secretary General of ABU as well as Director of AIBD pledged their support to PSM in further enhancing the broadcasting sector of the Maldives and praised PSM for the efficiently organized event.

Maldives hosted the 16th General Conference of AIDB, co-organized by Public Service Media (PSM) in Bandos Maldives Resort from August 21 to 22.

The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO, is a unique regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development. It is hosted by the Government of Malaysia and the secretariat is located in Kuala Lumpur.
