Vice President presents plaque of appreciation to custom officers

Vice President Abdulla Jihad has presented plaque of appreciation to employees of Maldives Customs Service who served for more than 20 years. The plaques were presented at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention centre, to celebrate the 127th anniversary of Maldives Customs Service.

In addition, the Commissioner General of Customs, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed launched the new website of Maldives Customs Service and the e-customs information system, while Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed launched the new uniform of Maldives Customs Service.

Addressing the ceremony, Home Minister Azleen Ahmed highlighted the great achievements the Maldives Customs Service has achieved in the past years. The Minister said that the Maldives Customs Service being one of the pioneering services of the government has its success credited to the development of the nation. Minister Azleen noted the tremendous effort of Maldives Customs Service to make the country drug free and stated that last year, 57 kilograms of drugs smuggled to Maldives has been caught while 26 kilograms of smuggled drugs has been caught so far this year.  

Maldives Customs Service was established as a separate legal entity independent of the civil service under the Maldives Customs Act which was ratified on May 11, 2011.
