President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has conveyed felicitations, in separate messages, to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 70th Independence Day of India.
In the President's message to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, he conveyed warmest felicitations to his counterpart, the friendly people of India on the joyful occasion of the Independence Day of the country. He further stated that the two countries share deep bonds of friendship and cooperation, and that he look forward to a stronger partnership in the years to come, founded on the common aspiration for greater peace and prosperity for the people.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has also sent a message to his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on the occasion of India's Independence Day.

At the Indian Embassy of Maldives in Male' City, the Indian Independence Day celebration commenced with a flag hoisting ceremony which was attended by the Indian residents living in the city. The flag was hoisted by the Ambassador of India to Maldives, Akilesh Mishra. Addressing at this ceremony, the Ambassador greeted and congratulated fellow Indians for successfully being an independent nation for 70 years.
In the address, Ambassador Akilesh Mishra delivered a message from the President of India. In the president's message, he highlighted the sacrifices made by the heroes back when India was struggling for independence.
In an exclusive interview with PSM News the Ambassador of India to Maldives, Akilesh Mishra, reiterated the commitment of India being a model country to the world and urged all the Indians living in Maldives to respect the principles and traditions of Maldives. The Ambassador also revealed the additional activities planned by the Embassy to celebrate the Independence Day of India in Maldives. He highlighted that a special cultural event would be organized to celebrate the occasion.
India's Independence Day, which is annually held on August 15, celebrates the country's independence from the British rule in the year 1947.
