First Lady unveils Action Plan on Violence against Children

First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim unveiled the National Action Plan on Violence against Children. The First Lady unveiled this action plan at the closing ceremony of the National Conference on Preventing Violence against Children held in Kurumba Maldives.

The action plan, unveiled by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, aims to establish a framework through which a systematic approach on preventing violence against children can be implemented.

Addressing the closing ceremony, the Minister of Gender and Family Zenysha Shaheed Zaki stressed on the status children hold in society. The Minister highlighted the importance of working together for safeguarding the children of the community from violence and crime. She revealed that approximately 100 cases of violence against children are filed with ministry on a monthly basis. The Minister reiterated the government's commitment to prevent violence against children and stated that its positive outcome is now evident in society.

The National Conference on Preventing Violence against Children is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Gender and Family and UNICEF. The country representative of UNICEF to Maldives Dr. Alice Akunga stated that children is the part of the community which deserves attention and affection. She highlighted the importance of the society and the government in teaming up for paving safe ways for children to lead a healthy life. Dr. Akunga reiterated UNICEF's commitment to stand for the right for each child.

At the ceremony a video was presented, which shows a child’s perspective on violence against children.
