The number of tourist arrivals from the United States of America has risen significantly during 2016 and 2017, statistics published by Tourism Ministry has revealed.
The statistics by the Tourism Ministry shows an upward trend in tourist arrivals from United States to the Maldives, which continues to escalate. United States made to the top 10 markets visiting Maldives at 9th place with over 35 thousand arrivals in 2016, according to the Tourism Ministry. The top 10 markets are made up of China, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, India, Russia, France, Japan, United States and Switzerland.
In reviewing the tourist arrivals between January to June of 2017, it is evident that arrivals from United States increased by 19.4 % this year compared to the same period of last year. This year, between January to June, 18,267 tourists arrived from the U.S while it totaled to 15,295 same period of last year. This is the first time the States has made it to the top 10 markets list of Maldives.
It is strongly believed that this is due to an older population choosing to travel to further destinations as well as a rise in disposable income.
