Health sector development is a government priority: Minister

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that health sector development is one of the major priorities of the current administration. The minister made the remarks while speaking at the inaugural function, of the Emergency and Critical Care Conference.

The first ever Emergency and Critical Care Conference organized by Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, IGMH kicked off in Bandos Island Resort on Saturday morning. Addressing the inaugural function, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim praised the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for prioritizing health sector development.

Government is conducting numerous projects to develop the health sector, including the 25 storey diagnostic centre project in Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, he said. The first ever Emergency and Critical Care Conference in the country aims to bring together doctors and nurses and inform them of the latest emergency care techniques and medicine. Over 160 participants are attending this conference.  

Speaking to PSM News, IGMH's consultant in emergency medicine, Dr. Aiminath Zeba Ahmed said that in addition to the conference they will also hold a workshop for doctors and nurses. Prior to the conference, they held two relevant workshops, said Zeba, noting that more workshops are planned for the upcoming days.

The conference was open for participation to all doctors and nurses working in the country. They plan to hold similar conferences regionally as well, Zeba said.  The conference and workshop are attended by 17 professional from 7 countries. This includes the President of Asia Pacific Critical Society.
