Economic Development of the nation is interconnected with national peace, said Vice President, Abdulla Jihad. He made the statement while addressing the function held to mark the 7th Anniversary of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
Addressing the function held on Friday night to mark the 7th Anniversary of Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) at Dharubaaruge Convention Centre, Vice President Abdulla Jihad stated that the nation belongs to all and that development can only be reached with contribution from everyone. The Administration has an economic agenda aimed for development of all the islands, the Vice President emphasized.
He said that the country's development was related to the people's self-sufficiency and that it would only be possible through better national productivity. Highlighting the services being provided by MIRA, the Vice President commended the staff of MIRA for their honesty and reliability, which has gained the public's trust.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed said that MIRA has never levied unlawful taxation, citing that all tax collections made by MIRA are payments which are owed to the state as per laws and regulations. He assured tax payers of the integrity of MIRA, citing that they are only following their lawful duty. MIRA works tirelessly to overcome difficulties faced while attempting to broaden the taxation system, Yazeed said, referring to efforts to expand the tax regime.\ In this regard, Yazeed referred to efforts by MIRA to integrate modern taxation systems in the country via the assistance of Asian Development Bank, ADB.
The Vice President distributed plaques to the winners of this year's Ranlaari Award, at the function. The award was introduced by MIRA in recognition of taxpayers who pay the highest amount of taxes to the state.
