President reassures death penalty would be implemented

President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom reassures Maldivian citizens that the current administration would implement the death penalty.

The President made this remark while speaking at the inauguration of the newly established community centre in Hulhumalé, Fahiveni. The President assured that the current administration would not allow any type of violence and injustice in the society.

The government has given this, the utmost priority and would take required measures to establish societal peace and harmony, the President said.

President Yameen reiterated his commitment towards establishing the death penalty amidst rumors to the contrary spread by the opposition.  

He said that the core aspect of establishing the death penalty is to provide the citizens of Maldives a secure and peaceful society.

The President stressed on the importance of prioritizing such issues over quarrelling on political disputes.
