Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has revealed that a large part of the industrial village project being developed in the Male' south west area has been completed. The work to develop the first industrial zone in Male' City is contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Speaking to PSM News regarding the industrial village project, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the tender board has announced to seek contractors to design the warehouses which will be established in the industrial village area. The Housing Minister said that the aim is to complete the warehouses being developed at industrial village by end of March 2018. He noted that the work to develop the industrial village is ongoing at a fast pace.
Work to lay asphalt in the industrial zone is nearing competition and that work is also ongoing to establish supply water and electricity networks in the area, according to Minister Muizzu. Developing the warehouses is a main priority, citing that they will begin developing the warehouses as soon as the tender board contracts consultants to design the warehouses, the Minister further added.
The Ministry will begin leasing lands from the industrial village in March 2018.
General Manager of MTCC, Mohamed Husham says that work is ongoing to lay asphalt on the main road leading to the industrial village. The industrial village project, funded by state budget, is estimated to cost MVR 250 million. The industrial village project aims to relocate all workshops, warehouses and garages operated amidst the residential areas in Male’ City to an isolated area, where the chemicals, and other dangers of such activities would not affect residents.
