President praises the developmental work in the past four years

While addressing the nation on the occasion of our 52nd Independence Day, President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that “in the past four years, we have undertaken developmental work, unparalleled to any other developmental era”.

He stressed that these initiatives were badly needed, yet side lined and that these are developmental goals that should have been previously attained. During the past 4 years, the President has taken it upon himself to achieve these milestones in development to increase both employment opportunities and the standard of living for Maldivian citizens.

One such project of significance, is the expansion of Velana International Airport to cater to modern day aircrafts and the required services to meet its expectations as a symbol of Maldivian national pride. The development of ports is noteworthy as it will create more employment opportunities.

In his address to the Nation on the Occasion of Maldives’ 52nd Indendence Day, President Yameen noted that the housing development projects underway in Hulhumale’ would solve the issue of limited housing and enable more comfortable lives to the people of Maldives.

President further noted that, Governments’ efforts to ensure a comfortable living for the people in islands will see 39 more ports being developed in addition to the completed 33 ports. He also noted that by the end of 2018, 75% of the entire population will have access to modern sewerage systems and clean water. Furthermore, President highlighted that road works are underway in 13 different islands of Maldives.

President in his address to the nation shed light on the developments being achieved in the health sector. In this regard, he observed the development of IGMH 25 storey building, conversion of Hithadhoo Regional Hospital and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital into tertiary hospitals will end the era of Maldivians having spent days away from family for medical treatment.

The President further noted the importance of a prospering economy and highlighted that with the establishment of 30 new resorts in Maldives by the end of 2018, 18000 job opportunities will be created and thus elevate the standard of living of numerous families.
