Madinah University to promote Islamic teachings in Maldives

Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM), Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has revealed that an agreement is to be signed with Islamic University of Madinah to promote Islamic teachings in Maldives.

The Chancellor of IUM said the decision to sign the agreement was made by the government of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Mohamed Shaheem made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the first International Workshop on Islamic Culture and Moderation (Balaagh). Shaheem said the proposed agreement would increase scholarships provided to IUM. He said that IUM provides highest education opportunity in Islamic education, and that much is being done by the university to promote Arabic language.

The bilingual Balaagh workshop was conducted in Arabic and English and was opened for both teachers and public, According to IUM. It was carried out in two sessions, a morning session specialized for religious scholarly awareness programmes and an afternoon session targeted for teachers and university students.
