CIF value of goods imported during June increased by 7% - Customs

Cost Insurance Freight (CIF) value of goods imported during June increased by 7% compared to June last year, according to Maldives Customs Services.

Approximately MVR2.7 billion worth of goods were imported during June 2016, whereas this year the figure was recorded at MVR2.9 billion, statistics released by Customs shows. Among the top importing countries, United Arab Emirates recorded the highest with 19% and China at the second with 15%. The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during June 2017 showed an increase of 11% compared to that of June 2016. A total of MVR210 million was collected through Customs duty last month.

Free On Board (FOB) value of goods exported during last June showed an increase of 118% to that of the same period of last year, which is an increase from MVR204 million to MVR446 million. The largest quantity of the exports was to Thailand which is 67% of the total exports for the month of June.
