World Bank pledges USD 18 million to Maldives

Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee announced that World Bank has pledged USD 18 million in aid, for the development of the Maldivian fisheries industry. He made this statement while inaugurating the Fisheries and Tourism Seminar at the Maldives Financial Expo 2017.

Noting that this was the largest donation by the World Bank to the Maldivian fisheries sector, the Minister said that the World Bank's move reflects the trust and acceptance Maldivian Fisheries enjoy in the international community. He noted that it also demonstrates the positive steps taken by the private sector to expand fisheries.

The Minister revealed that aid has been confirmed and that preparations are underway to sign relevant paperwork.
