Banks should work with the housing sector: Dr. Muizzu

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged banks to work in unity with the housing sector in towards facilitating housing finance. He made this statement addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Maldives Financial Expo 2017.

Dr. Muizzu said that the government gives utmost priority to provide better living standards and highlighted several efforts by the government to construct several housing units. He stated that it is vital that the banking sector work side by side with housing projects such as construction and real estate companies, as the government aims to provide affordable living standards.

Stressing on the importance of easing the payment processes for housing units, Housing Minister Muizzu noted that easier regulations to obtain housing loans will widely solve the congestion issue. In his speech, the Housing Minister reflected on the importance of such an expo for the public. He stressed on the importance of the banking sector working together with the government in housing projects.

Addressing the ceremony, the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mohamed Saiman said that, even though the Hulhumale' Development Project was initiated by the government to solve the congestion issues and ease the living standards, they do not see people willing to make the best use of the place. He attributed the lack of enough financial projects introduced to the market to this unwillingness.
